ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A 63-year-old motorcyclist died after striking a deer on Route 7 in Dexter around 7:30 p.m. Saturday night — she was flown by LifeFlight to a Bangor hospital where she was in critical condition before dying. Bangor Daily News
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Bangor High is piloting its new online learning program (RAMp) for a cohort of 20 students to offer flexible home study while providing access to in-person classes and extracurricular activities. Officials say the program will be evaluated this school year and may be expanded if it meets the students' needs. News Center Maine

- ➤ Great white sharks have been seen more often off the Maine coast as local fisherman Rick Clough spotted an 8-foot shark near Scarborough in July and drone footage captured a 12-foot shark; scientists say the rise is due to a growing seal population—boosted by conservation laws—and caution beachgoers to be alert. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Deer Isle and Stonington’s Memorial Ambulance Corps trained eight new EMTs this summer using a remote program—linking local in-person training with live lectures from Bangor—that cuts their long drive. The hybrid course—funded by a $30,000 grant—grew the corps to 40 members and will soon start similar classes in Farmington and Castine. Bangor Daily News
