  • Maine broadcasting legend George Hale will serve as grand marshal in Bangor’s Fourth of July parade + a tribute honoring his 77-year career, organizers said. The 94-year-old icon will lead the celebration marking the town’s 250th anniversary as he pays homage to his longtime service in Maine sports and community.  Bangor Daily News

  • Statewide heating oil prices remain high as the Maine Department of Energy Resources reported an average of $5.43 per gallon on April 6 (a 42% increase since the Iran War began). More than half of homes rely on fuel oil while the Home Energy Assistance Program offers financial help.  FOX Bangor

  • Team Nourish Kids from RSU 22 won the 2026 Farm-to-School Cook-Off Championship on Wednesday at Bangor High School as school districts from Hampden, Newburgh, Winterport, and Frankfort showcased Maine-sourced recipes (promoting local healthy meals).  WABI 5
  • Ruth Griffith of Parkman was named the 2026 UMaine valedictorian and will graduate on May 9 at Alfond Arena (Orono). She earned the honor for her thesis tracking economic trends in Maine and for leading community service initiatives like Maine Day Meal Packout.  The Piscataquis Observer

  • Mainers with an associate, bachelor's, or graduate degree may receive a student loan repayment tax credit of up to $2,500 when filing by April 15. The credit, applicable to both principal and interest, requires earning at least $13,712 and proper documentation and carries a $25,000 lifetime cap.  News Center Maine

  • During Parkinson’s Awareness Month this April, Rock Steady Boxing Bold Coast in Brewer offers training to help people with Parkinson’s improve mobility and build community. Holden and Ellsworth police supported a session at Titan Athletics with a $500 donation (their 25 Days of Kindness initiative).  WABI 5
  • Local chiropractor Dr. Allyson Coffin visited 207 Studio to explain that knee pain can affect anyone and demonstrated exercises such as leg kickbacks + calf raises + monster walk to help strengthen knees.
