  • Maine Equipment Rentals donated 21 bikes and helmets to local children Tuesday through its Angel Tree program at Neighbors Supporting Neighbors Community Pantry (Hermon-based) to help families celebrate the holidays and will distribute any extra bikes to more kids in the coming months.  WABI 5

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Crews responded Monday night at 301 Wing Road after a building fire was reported and found that the homeowner’s claim of the fire being out was mistaken when a sheriff’s deputy discovered it still burned underneath the roof (no injuries were reported) before additional help arrived.  WABI 5

  • Bangor High School Jazz Ensemble offered a behind the scenes look at their holiday rehearsal on Dec. 23 as they prepare for upcoming seasonal shows in a local school setting, highlighting student effort and festive spirit.  WABI 5
  • A look behind the scenes details James F. Doughty's work with the William S. Cohen School Combined Chorus & offers locals a glimpse into their creative process for upcoming performances. It was published yesterday as part of a local arts feature.  WABI 5
  • The new book Maine Golf Tales, published Dec. 1, features 18 Maine courses including Aroostook Valley Country Club, where the parking lot is in the US (and the clubhouse is in Canada).   • Conservation groups have appealed to the Board of Environmental Protection, saying CMP’s 145-mile NECEC transmission line conservation plan fails to protect mature forests in western Maine because it covers logged areas and allows future harvesting; the line will power on by the end of 2025.  Bangor Daily News
  • A FIRST ALERT is in effect tonight through Wednesday morning as heavy snow produces messy roads & low visibility in Bangor and nearby areas. Schools are out for Christmas, so bus safety is less of a concern.  WABI 5

  • ACA open enrollment closed for plans starting Jan. 1, and the Maine Bureau of Insurance reports a 7% drop in enrollments with roughly 5,700 cancellations, leaving some Mainers facing steep premium hikes when subsidies expire at the end of 2025 (a challenge for local families).  WABI 5

  • Bangor International Airport experienced several flight delays Tuesday due to a winter storm, and officials advised travelers to check flight updates via mobile app + ticket counter and arrive two hours early to ensure smoother holiday travel.  WABI 5
