COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Penobscot Theatre is hosting the ‘Fill the Theatre’ event with Key Bank to collect toys and gifts for Penquis’ program—200 children will also shop at Penquis Toyland, with donations accepted through Dec. 19. This effort aims to support over 1,300 local kids during the holiday season.  WABI 5
  • Lily House is a new women’s sober living home in the Tree Streets near downtown that offers four furnished bedrooms for tenants aged 18 or older who work, study, or volunteer, with a three-month commitment, monthly dues of $825-$875, and house rules including a curfew and no overnight guests.  WABI 5

CULTURE NEWS

  • Downtown Bangor businesses are supporting the Maine Discovery Museum this holiday season — Out On a Whimsey collects donations in December, Portland Pie Co. sells ornaments starting Dec. 15, and The Rock and Art Shop will feature the museum in its monthly jar in January — in support of its educational programs.  FOX Bangor

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The UMaine Board of Trustees will review plans to demolish Crossland Hall (the campus' oldest building) tomorrow, Dec. 17, as part of a modernization effort addressing $10 million in deferred maintenance. The Franco-American Centre will temporarily move to Libby Hall amid strong pushback from students and faculty.  WABI 5
  • The University of Maine System and its graduate student workers reached a tentative contract deal in Orono after more than 700 days of bargaining. Officials said the deal, which improves pay + benefits, now awaits ratification in the coming days.  FOX Bangor
  • The University of Maine System will review a plan to demolish Crossland Hall on the UMaine Orono campus on Wednesday. Local supporters, including alumni and a gubernatorial candidate, say the building, built in 1833, holds important ties to Maine’s Franco-American heritage.  FOX Bangor

HEALTH NEWS

  • Ed & Susan Moreshead, Hermon medical workers, recounted how donated blood saved Ed’s life after he fell ill during a paramedic shift in Jackman in 2023. The couple urges local residents to donate blood to help save lives.  FOX Bangor
