- ➤ UMaine held its annual Wabanaki Winter Market Saturday at the Collins Center for the Arts in Orono. The market celebrated indigenous heritage by showcasing local artists with traditional works and fresh creative designs. FOX Bangor
- ➤ The Bangor Public Library held its largest book fair Saturday, showcasing 100 authors plus a wide range of books for all readers. Organized by the Bangor Authors' Collaborative, the event connected local writers with community book lovers in the heart of Bangor. FOX Bangor
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Loons have increased in Maine lakes as Maine Audubon (the bird count authority) reported 3,174 adults and 568 chicks, crediting bans on lead tackle and boat speed limits for the rise. Conservationists remain cautious that confirming a sustainable trend may take more years. WABI 5
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ UMaine’s men’s hockey team won 5-0 over Lindenwood on Saturday night at the Alfond Arena in Orono. The team built an early lead with goals in the first period and maintained control throughout the game. Bangor Daily News
- ➤ Hermon Mountain Ski Area opened Saturday, Dec. 13 in Hermon for skiers and boarders. The resort will operate Sundays 9-4, Wednesdays 3-8 for night riders, and Saturdays 9-7 with three trails now in service. FOX Bangor
- ➤ UMaine men’s basketball lost to Canisius 70-43 on Saturday (in Orono) after scoring only 17 points in the first half, which dropped the team to a 1-12 record. They will face Drexel in Philadelphia on Dec. 21. Bangor Daily News
