  • Brewer’s Om Land Yoga Tuesday featured adoptable cats from Old Town Animal Orphanage that joined a free yoga class to help socialize the felines and relax participants—an event celebrating the shelter’s 35th anniversary and a new donation drive for animal care.  WABI 5

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Happy Endings, a martini bar in downtown Bangor that opened in 2017, was listed for sale at the end of November for $199,000 and includes its branding, furniture and equipment—its lease ends on June 1 while the space is not part of the sale.  Bangor Daily News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • University of Maine Cooperative Extension will host a free poultry education program on December 15 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at its Penobscot County Office at 307 Maine Avenue in Bangor — the event in partnership with the Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation, and Forestry will teach backyard chicken keepers about chick brooding, winter care, nutrition, flock health, and pest management.  FOX Bangor

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Maine hunters set a record with 52,709 deer harvested through Tuesday morning using archery, youth, firearms and muzzleloader hunts. Wildlife officials said permit changes helped the count grow—final verified numbers will be released after the season ends.  The Piscataquis Observer

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Sen. Susan Collins announced funding that will help Mainers heat their homes this winter — nearly $38 million goes to Maine and about $1.5 million is set aside for Indian Township and the local tribes.  WABI 5
  • Bangor Police is urging drivers to slow down and use headlights during heavy snowfall to avoid accidents. The department advises keeping at least half a tank of gas and maintaining extra space between vehicles—steps that help ensure safe travel today.  WABI 5
  • Public safety officials urged residents to heat their homes safely as colder weather leads to more fires from space heaters and wood stoves — last month a space heater sparked a major fire in Falmouth and a wood stove caused a blaze in Roxbury. They advised people to follow manufacturer directions, keep combustibles three feet away, and check smoke detectors to prevent accidents.  News Center Maine

HEALTH NEWS

  • Six CDC staff arrived Monday in Bangor to help local officials respond to an HIV outbreak in Penobscot County and a recent rise in cases among people who inject drugs in Cumberland County—public health officials say the team will also interview affected individuals and create educational resources until Dec. 19. This federal support follows a pause during the shutdown and aims to improve testing and outreach efforts.  Bangor Daily News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Former rivals from Bangor and Brewer now play together as the Twin City Titans after merging due to low numbers, and players have built good team chemistry with dinners and scrimmage wins. They use navy blue and white uniforms and will hold a preseason scrimmage today at Penobscot Ice Arena before opening the season on Dec. 10 at Sawyer Arena—coached by Denis Collins and Quinn Paradis.  Bangor Daily News
  • Former Hampden Academy star Bella McLaughlin, now a junior guard at Boston University, returned home on Monday night to play at UMaine’s Memorial Gym in Orono—she managed only one point with eight turnovers in a 54 to 45 loss.
