ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Maine’s Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife released a 14-minute documentary on November 22 that details 50 years of black bear research in the state, produced by Lone Spruce Productions.   • Bangor faced Maine’s largest HIV outbreak, first seen in Penobscot County in October 2023, and health care providers expect new cases to appear statewide.   • Frye compiled a chart from decades of Maine Fish and Game records that shows very few bucks have been field dressed over 300 pounds — only those verified by the Big Buck Club list are counted, and his 2025 figures will remain unofficial until the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife releases final numbers in late spring.  Bangor Daily News
