COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The WinterKids Passport program marked 25 years by offering Maine families a $40 membership that gives eligible children free or discounted access to junior lift tickets, ice skating, gear rentals, and cross-country ski trails at over 75 locations. The program also provides exclusive family days—featuring special deals and mobile access—so local families can enjoy winter activities through May 30.  WABI 5
  • Tomorrow, the Bangor police—along with the eastern area Agency of aging and Shaw’s supermarket—will hold an annual pet food drive at Shaw’s, 353 Main Street between 9:00 A.M. and 12:00 P.M.; donations of pet food, cash, or checks will aid local residents in need.  FOX Bangor
  • Maine churches and families are packing gift-filled shoeboxes as part of Operation Christmas Child by Samaritan’s Purse to help children in need worldwide. Calvary Baptist Church in Brewer has collected over 5,400 boxes so far—its goal is to reach 15,000 by Monday to benefit kids in more than 170 countries.  WABI 5

CULTURE NEWS

  • Bangor installed its 40-foot blue spruce holiday tree in West Market Square on Thursday as a Brewer resident donated it in honor of her mother, Pam Martin. The tree lighting event and light show will begin at 4 p.m. on Nov. 28 during Plaid Friday with the Festival of Lights parade scheduled for Dec. 6.  Bangor Daily News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Starting January 1, most Central Maine Power customers will face a nearly 20% increase in electricity supply rates—from 10.61 to 12.72 cents per kilowatt hour—raising their bills by about $11 for households using roughly 550 kilowatt hours monthly. The new rates were set by the state Public Utilities Commission via its competitive bid process and will affect both residential and small business customers.  WABI 5

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A federal court of appeals ruled that the government can require electronic trackers on federally permitted lobster fishing boats to gather detailed data for assessing lobster stocks & dismissed lobstermen's claim that constant GPS monitoring violated their Fourth Amendment rights. The ruling follows a suit filed last year & supports efforts to manage declining lobster numbers.  WABI 5
  • Bangor Water District shut off water near Bangor Christian Schools on November 20 to fix a leak in the system—this shutdown affected addresses from 1349 to 1476 Broadway and local fire hydrants, and officials have not said when service will resume.  Bangor Daily News
  • After years of delays, Maine regulators approved the final permit for the New England Clean Energy Connect hydropower corridor so it can be online by the end of December—Avangrid said the revised conservation plan for 50,000 acres meets state requirements and testing will follow.  Bangor Daily News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Maine high school football will crown four state champions on Saturday as top seeds compete in Class A, B, C and D finals at Portland’s Fitzpatrick Stadium and Lewiston High School — the Portland Bulldogs will defend their title against Thornton Academy at 11 a.m., while Westbrook, Greely and Winthrop also face off for their state crowns later that day.  Bangor Daily News
