- ➤ Multiple community Thanksgiving meals are planned across the region—Bangor's Hammond Street Congregational Church hosts a free feast with turkey and all the fixings on Thanksgiving Day starting at noon, and events in Dexter, Eastport, Guilford, and Searsport offer free meals with delivery options on November 27. - ➤ A Holiday Bazaar luncheon and bake sale will take place at Miller Square at 315 Harlow Street in Bangor from 9AM to 3PM, offering pies, soups, chowders + raffles with door prizes. All proceeds will benefit low-income seniors by easing food insecurity and social isolation. FOX Bangor
- ➤ Mainers have seen a surge in community support as local food drives, wood banks, and state agencies stepped in after a government shutdown threatened SNAP benefits until full funding was restored on November 10 — however, heating aid and other assistance programs still face challenges. - ➤ The Maine Discovery Museum launched two new programs for tweens and early teens in a safe and engaging setting. - ➤ Maine Library Commission postponed its vote on a new library agreement meant to require paid directors and expanded hours after strong public feedback; the group will seek a legal opinion to avoid punishing small libraries—commissioners will review the proposal again in January. - ➤ On Nov. 18, the Maine Public Utilities Commission rejected Central Maine Power's five-year plan to raise residential rates by up to $35 a month because the plan did not include a long-term grid strategy—so the power company must file a new request for future changes. The Piscataquis Observer
- ➤ On Tuesday, November 18, Central Maine Power’s plan to raise rates over the next five years was rejected by the Maine Public Utilities Commission—commissioners said it lacked a long-term grid plan and could harm customers.
