COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Husson University will host its Festival of Trees fundraiser on December 6th and 7th from 9am–8pm in Harold Alfond Hall, featuring a tree raffle, silent auction, cookie decorating, ornament decorating, face painting, tattoos and a meet and greet with Santa. Entry is by donation and each activity costs $1.  WABI 5

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Maine gas prices have remained steady as local stations report no changes despite market shifts — a sign that supply and demand are balanced, easing cost worries for drivers. Analysts say this trend could continue if current conditions hold.  WABI 5

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • About 75 gallons of heating oil spilled into the Kenduskeag Stream in downtown Bangor on Monday morning when a delivery truck hit a concrete abutment—prompting Clean Harbors to deploy a boom near Washington Street to keep the spill from reaching the Penobscot River.  Bangor Daily News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • After the first snow over the weekend, Bangor public works crews checked over 20 plow trucks and trained 15 new drivers to get ready for upcoming winter storms. Stockton Springs crews inspected truck hydraulics and stocked 5,000 to 8,000 yards of salt—making sure equipment is set for tough weather.  News Center Maine
  • Gov Mills and state homelessness leaders warned that a new federal rule to cut HUD money may put 1,200 Mainers at risk of losing their stable homes. The change will drop Maine’s funds from $20.5 million to about $7 million+it may raise pressure on local shelters and health services.  News Center Maine

HEALTH NEWS

  • Northern Light Health is partnering with Harvard Pilgrim Health Care to expand affordable, high-quality care in the area. The collaboration will let Northern Light Health offer Harvard Pilgrim’s Maine’s Choice Plus product to local businesses and people — a plan that could give more coverage options.  WABI 5

SPORTS NEWS

  • Winslow Black Raiders won the Class D North football championship after beating the John Bapst-Bangor Christian Crusaders 42-14 on Saturday. They will face the Winthrop-Monmouth Academy-Hall-Dale Ramblers in the state championship on Saturday at Lewiston High School.  WABI 5
  • The Maine Track & Cross Country Coaches Association named its all-state cross country teams, which include several Bangor area runners such as Bangor High School junior Samuel Bergmark on the boys first team—girls first team selections from Hampden Academy and Orono High School further highlight the honor.  Bangor Daily News
