- ➤ Penquis was selected to receive a $1,000 grant from BJ’s Wholesale Club Inc. as part of its team-driven giving campaign — the funds will support the annual Turkey Drive this November that helps over 5,000 families in Penobscot, Piscataquis and Knox counties secure a Thanksgiving meal. - ➤ Following Veterans Day, the Downeast Family YMCA held its 12th annual Veterans’ Remembrance 4 Miler on Saturday outside its facility on Pond Avenue and Shore Road where runners and walkers honored local veterans. Organizer Robin Clarke said funds from $20 pre-registration, with free entry for veterans holding military ID, will support YMCA programs and veteran groups including Maine Veterans Project — the Summit Project. - ➤ Volunteers from FOLKS finished their tenth season of cleaning the Kenduskeag Stream Trail in downtown Bangor as they picked up litter, trimmed vegetation, and removed graffiti to keep the path safe for walkers and cyclists.
