COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Food and Medicine is hosting a monthly resource fair at Bangor Public Library where 18 to 20 groups offer services such as housing and addiction support. The next fair will be on Dec. 10 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. — organizers expect 30 to 50 attendees and hope the event will reach even more people.  FOX Bangor
  • Bangor’s Hope House is expanding to add 12 beds and more space for emergency flex beds and transitional housing by the end of 2026. The $5 million project—funded by American Rescue Plan dollars, the Maine State Housing Authority, the City of Bangor, and Penobscot County—will help more people secure safe shelter during cold days.  News Center Maine
  • The annual Festival of Lights parade will return to downtown Bangor on Dec. 6 at 4:30 p.m., featuring marching bands+ floats, dancers and other performers while the holiday tree is lit in West Market Square.   • Cub Scouts in Corinth are planning an expanded Thanksgiving Baskets Drive to help locals facing uncertain SNAP benefits amid a government shutdown — the effort follows the group's long-standing service tradition.  WABI 5

ECONOMY NEWS

  • NEWS CENTER Maine launched its new podcast 'Priced Out: Generational Disparities' on its app, with economic expert Michael Hillard discussing Mainers' struggles with rising housing prices and high college debt—he noted that mortgage rates around 7% and reduced Pell Grant support have deepened these gaps. The episode examines generational differences and advises younger listeners to consider public higher education and trade skills—shedding light on Maine’s ongoing economic challenges.  News Center Maine

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Bureau of Parks and Lands, part of Maine’s Department of Agriculture, Conservation, and Forestry, will announce the first round of awardees for the Maine Trails Program by the end of November with $7.5 million set aside from a state-approved $30 million plan. Half of the funds go to multi-use trails + one quarter each to motorized and non-motorized trails, and applicants must match 10 percent of the requested amount.  News Center Maine

SPORTS NEWS

  • UMaine football will treat its Saturday home game against URI at Morse Field as a playoff contest—since a win is needed to keep playoff hopes alive and share the CAA regular season title.
