COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The East Orrington Congregational Church is hosting the annual Ye Olde Country Store Craft Fair on Friday from 3 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon. The event offers homemade cheese, spices, sweet breads, desserts, frozen meals and turkey pie community dinners at 4:30 p.m. and 6 p.m.—tickets cost $12 to support church activities.  WABI 5
  • William Cossette and Bruce Poland, veterans who traveled on an Honor Flight Maine trip in September, visited the Vietnam War memorial in Washington, D.C.—they recalled how homecomings had once felt cold and later turned warm with volunteer support.  News Center Maine

EDUCATION NEWS

  • UMaine’s Orono campus held a flag raising ceremony Monday to mark the start of a week-long celebration honoring its growing veteran community ahead of Veteran’s Day. Tony Llerena from Veterans Education and Transition Services said the events—lasting until Friday, Nov. 14—will provide support and connection for student veterans.  FOX Bangor

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Maine wells may stay dry through spring as ongoing drought and an early winter freeze threaten water supplies for homeowners like Jessica Champagne in McGalloway Township. Rapid evaporation and low rainfall have forced many to pump river water to refill their wells—raising concerns about water safety and potential equipment damage.  Bangor Daily News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Pine Tree Hospice, a non-profit volunteer hospice group in Dover-Foxcroft, is inviting private duty care providers to join its free directory that helps families find extra in-home care for life-limiting illnesses—providers may include their contact details, credentials, services, rates, and availability. The directory serves Piscataquis County and parts of Penobscot and Somerset counties and is updated every six months.  The Piscataquis Observer
  • Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston will no longer seek trauma center verification effective Dec. 1 — the change leaves Maine with only two verified trauma centers at MaineHealth Maine Medical Center in Portland and Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor while it remains a trauma system hospital capable of providing essential trauma care and managing transfers.  WABI 5
  • Hospice care physician Patricia Frith, DO and provider relations liaison Michele Stevens from Northern Light Health visited WABI this morning in honor of National Home Care and Hospice Month to explain hospice care—end-of-life treatment that eases pain and supports families—to help patients live fully until the end.  WABI 5

SPORTS NEWS

  • UMaine hockey struggled with special teams as the team won 6-2 then lost 4-0 because of too many penalties—now coaches say reducing penalty minutes and boosting power plays is urgent. The team, ranked eighth nationally, will focus on improving both its penalty killing and power play performance moving forward.  Bangor Daily News
  • Husson field hockey won its second-straight conference title on Sunday at the Winkin Complex by coming back from a 2-0 deficit to beat Thomas College 3-2 in overtime—junior Faith Tillotson scored the golden goal.  Bangor Daily News
  • Bangor senior co-captain quarterback Kyle Johnson sparked his team with a 70-yard touchdown run on the opening play—an effort that boosted Bangor to a 35-6 quarterfinal win over Oxford Hills and reversed a previous loss.
