EDUCATION NEWS

  • RSU 68 is upgrading its superintendent’s office HVAC system after past ventilation issues; work at SeDoMoCha School has progressed with condensers now in place—ductwork cleaned—while the district uses a $971,540 zero interest loan to improve indoor air quality.  The Piscataquis Observer

HEALTH NEWS

  • Eastern Area Agency on Aging is expanding nutrition assistance for adults age 60 or older and for adults with disabilities on SNAP. Grab-and-Go Frozen Meal sites will operate at locations in Brewer, Calais, Millinocket, Milo and Sullivan from November 10 through November 13—services designed to address needs during the federal government shutdown.  FOX Bangor
  • MaineHealth apologized after a computer glitch on Oct. 20 sent 521 death notices to living patients; the error was fixed and apology letters were mailed to everyone affected. The healthcare network said patient care was not compromised and medical records remain unchanged.  FOX Bangor
  • Northern Light Health and Anthem signed a contract on November 5 that keeps care in Anthem's network so patients who received services since November 1 will not face extra charges—ending months of uncertainty for over 30,000 Mainers.  The Piscataquis Observer

  • Bangor-area high school football playoffs offer exciting matchups this weekend as Hermon hosts Nokomis at 6 p.m. today on Pottle Field, the Bangor Rams rematch Oxford Hills in South Paris after a 34-7 loss, and Millinocket’s Stearns/Schenck play at 7 p.m. today. John Bapst will host Maranacook at 7 p.m. Saturday and Camden Hills will face MDI at 12 p.m. Saturday—drawing local fans to crucial playoff battles.  Bangor Daily News
  • Robbie Flint shot a 252-pound buck with 26 points at 4:15 p.m. Tuesday in Lincoln County—confirmed on a certified scale at The Meat Shop—and used scent cover and doe calls while his brother Gage watched.  Bangor Daily News
  • UMaine hockey used a season-high 54 shots on goal to beat UMass 6-2 on Thursday night and extend its four-game winning streak—junior right wing Josh Nadeau scored three goals in the win as UMaine improved its Hockey East record.  Bangor Daily News
