  • Due to an imminent end to SNAP benefits amid the government shutdown, Maine restaurants are offering discounted meals and free food to government workers, SNAP recipients and families in need — Blaze Urban Pizza gives 50% off while other venues provide free pizzas, vegetables or meals until benefits are reinstated.  Bangor Daily News

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Moe's BBQ in Bangor is offering a 50% discount for federal employees who show a valid government ID during the government shutdown—owner Hasbrouck said the deal applies to individual meals and family packs serving three to four people. He added that the business welcomes community input on additional ways to help those affected by the shutdown.  WABI 5

  • The Maine Bureau of Veterans’ Services warns veterans and their families about a postcard scam claiming extra money on Social Security checks through a fake 2025 Veteran Giveback Program — officials advise not to share personal information with unsolicited contacts.  WABI 5

  • Needlepoint Sanctuary will reopen its brick and mortar syringe service location at 1009 Ohio St. after Bangor City Council voted 6–2 to rezone the site so the provider can offer syringe services, recovery meetings, and care connections amid the ongoing HIV outbreak and winter homelessness concerns.  Bangor Daily News

HEALTH NEWS

  • AARP reports that about 324,000 Maine adults—28 percent of the population—serve as unpaid family caregivers for aging loved ones. AARP is urging state policy makers to support these caregivers as the need for their care grows.  FOX Bangor
