- ➤ UCP of Maine will host its 23rd Annual Pumpkins in the Park event on Sunday at the Anah Shriner’s building — 1404 Broadway — from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. WABI 5
- ➤ On Thursday, the Bangor Ronald McDonald House cut the ribbon on its new playground—built with help from multiple corporate sponsors over a decade—and dedicated the space to give families a place for children to play while a loved one battles illness. FOX Bangor
- ➤ The Bangor Region YMCA is breaking ground on its new, 82,000-square-foot facility today at 11 a.m.—located between Dunkin’ and the Bangor Fire Department on Main Street. The three-story building will cost nearly $58 million and double the size of its current space while expanding early childhood and before- and after-school programs, with added amenities like two pools and a full-court gym as it is set to open in 2027 in memory of Cathy Gero. - ➤ Adoptive and Foster Families of Maine (AFFM) has run its holiday gift giving program for over 20 years to bring joy to more than 1,000 children in foster, adoptive, and kinship care. Donations can be made online by Nov. 14 with last minute gifts accepted until Christmas Day. WABI 5

- ➤ Maine native and first overall NBA draft pick Cooper Flagg announced his new New Balance shoe, inspired by Maine greenery and priced at $120. It will be available in stores on October 22 and will debut with the Dallas Mavericks to start the NBA season. WABI 5

- ➤ Julia Edwards, a choral music teacher at Bruce Whittier Middle School and Poland Regional High School, was named 2026 Maine Teacher of the Year by the Maine Department of Education. She celebrated the honor with RSU 16 educators and students at a surprise ceremony in the Poland Regional High School gym—after previously winning the 2025 Androscoggin County Teacher of the Year award. - ➤ Marisa Kelley, a Hermon alumna and third grade teacher who coached the boys team last season, has been named head coach for Hermon High girls basketball — she called the move a no-brainer — and will rebuild the team with first practice on Nov. 17. She values trust in coaching and brings experience from her time at John Bapst and on the Hermon courts. Bangor Daily News

- ➤ Four health insurers serving older Mainers are set to reduce Medicare Advantage options in Maine as rising costs and federal changes prompt plan adjustments. Anthem and Aetna will scale back offerings while Martin’s Point Health and UnitedHealthcare are discontinuing select plans, which will require seniors to seek new coverage. The Piscataquis Observer

- ➤ Five UMaine women’s basketball players—forward Heather Ernest and guards Kim Corbitt, Blanca Millan, Anne Simon, and Sigi Koizar—were named among America East’s top 25 players over the past 25 years.
