COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Nearly 75 Maine veterans are traveling on an Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. to visit war memorials and monuments, and they will have a Welcome Home Celebration today—although space restrictions at the venue have forced the event to be closed to the public.  WABI 5

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Educators, community members and officials gathered yesterday at Husson University for the 22nd Maine Chinese Conference—hosted by Bangor Chinese School and The Chinese Language and Culture Center of Maine—to discuss language education and cross-cultural partnerships. Panels featured discussions on U.S.-China collaboration and student performances showcasing Chinese cultural traditions.  WABI 5

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Maine Gov. Janet Mills posted a video on Friday saying she would run for Senate and flip the seat blue but quickly deleted it when she discovered a mistake — her video also criticized Sen. Susan Collins. She is now seen as a top candidate who must prepare for a competitive primary.  FOX Bangor

HEALTH NEWS

  • Reigning Hope Ranch in Orrington is raising funds to offer equine therapy that helps people connect with rescued horses — the nonprofit held its fifth annual fall festival to fund plans for an indoor riding space. Director Jenna Baillargeon said the outdoor therapy gives clients a chance to heal and build trust with the animals.  FOX Bangor
  • On Saturday, Maine’s Alzheimer’s Association held its largest annual fundraiser walk in Bangor with about 400 people gathered on the Waterfront. The event raised about $58 thousand toward an $84 thousand goal—helping fund free care, research, and community support for families affected by Alzheimer’s and dementia.  WABI 5

SPORTS NEWS

  • UMaine beat Merrimack 20-13 on Saturday with quarterback Carter Peevy scoring a winning touchdown—his run gave coach Jordan Stevens his first three-game win streak—and both teams improved to a 3-4 record. UMaine will host Elon for its homecoming game on Oct. 25 at 1 p.m.  Bangor Daily News
  • Junior left wing Josh Nadeau scored two goals and goalie Albin Boija made 22 saves as UMaine beat Holy Cross 6—0 on Friday at Alfond Arena; the win improved UMaine’s record to 2—0 while Holy Cross fell to 0—3.  Bangor Daily News
