  • Last weekend, hundreds visited the Maine Forest and Logging Museum in Bradley to experience Living History Days by riding a horse-drawn wagon, viewing steam-powered machinery, and making candles—over 50 reenactors including members of the 20th Maine regiment demonstrated colonial and Civil War life to show a true slice of local history.  WABI 5

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Tests showed PFAS levels at Hawk Ridge Compost Facility contaminated wetlands more than two miles away—speeding its shutdown decision. Casella Waste Management said it will continue processing current compost while the DEP reviews a closure plan with cleanup expected to finish in 2026.  Bangor Daily News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Northern Light Health is urging women over 40 to get yearly screening mammograms during Breast Cancer Awareness Month—mammograms can spot cancer up to three years before symptoms. The health system is making screening easier by lighting up hospitals and offering walk-in appointments with its mobile unit in rural areas including Windham, Sangerville and Greenville—helping catch cancer early.  The Piscataquis Observer
  • During Fire Prevention Week from Oct. 5 to 11, the American Red Cross of Northern New England reminds families to test smoke alarms monthly and practice a home fire escape plan that gets everyone out in less than two minutes — a step that can save lives.
