- ➤ The Maine Veterans Project donated another used car to veteran Dale Goodwin who came up from Saco to Brewer for his new ride. Twin City Tire inspected and serviced the vehicle to ensure many trouble-free miles — Goodwin felt overwhelmed by the support as the charity continues its growing program. WABI 5
- ➤ The annual Festival of Lights Parade returns to Bangor this December as the Rotary Club of Bangor will host the event on December 6th at 4:30 p.m. — the parade will start at State/Exchange Streets, follow a set route along State and Main Streets, and end at Water/Washington Streets with a free electronic application deadline of November 1st at 5:00 p.m. FOX Bangor

- ➤ A Bangor baker, Emily Davis, introduced a Taylor Swift-themed cupcake flight called 'The Life of a Showgirl' featuring vanilla and chocolate cupcakes with orange vanilla buttercream—designed to match the album buzz. - ➤ NEWS CENTER Maine Chief Meteorologist Todd Gutner has co-written a children’s book named 'The Adventures of a Maine Peanut' with friend Samir Haydar—his wife Rachel edited the book and friend Jim Newton drew its pictures. The book got its idea from a camping trip when a bad knot let a boat called Peanut drift away at Kettle Cove near Richmond Island off Cape Elizabeth. News Center Maine
- ➤ Veazie is hosting its Annual Oktoberfest on Saturday, October 4 at the Veazie Salmon Club—running from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.—with German-styled food, pretzels, a 50/50 raffle, a stein lifting contest, a cornhole tournament, and live music by the Oompah Band. WABI 5
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Versant Power announced changes affecting electric bills for local customers—Bangor Hydro District users paying 500 kilowatts a month will see a 12-cent increase and Maine Public District customers will see a $2.77 decrease—with new rates starting on Wednesday due to shifts in the stranded costs rate and public policy charge. - ➤ Central Maine Power is asking for a five-year rate increase that could add about $35 to monthly bills as it seeks $427 million for new hires and system improvements. More than 450 customers filed comments opposing the plan—regulators will hold public hearings in Freeport on Oct. 14 and in Hallowell on Oct. 15. Bangor Daily News

- ➤ Eastern Maine Community College partnered with the Bangor International Airport to launch an internship program that lets criminal justice students work directly with airport teams on security and compliance tasks—building skills for public safety careers. FOX Bangor

- ➤ The Maine Department of Health and Human Services will mail over 67,000 letters this week to residents who qualify for LIAP to help with winter electricity bills. Homeowners and renters must show the letter to their utility provider to get monthly bill credits—those already in fuel assistance are automatically enrolled and others should call their local community action program. - ➤ Renderings for the proposed new Penobscot County jail in Bangor may be available by the end of the year—town leaders learned on Sept 25 about plans for 250 to 300 beds and the purchase of a 30 acres site in Hampden from a former gravel pit. County officials said the update included cost estimates and next steps to replace the 1869 jail that is now in poor condition. The Piscataquis Observer

- ➤ Officials report that cases of parvovirus in dogs have been rising across Bangor and local parks over the past few days. Dr. Ai Takeuchi from Eastern Maine Emergency Veterinary Clinic warned pet owners to update vaccinations as the virus causes severe vomiting, diarrhea and can be fatal – it even survives in frosty conditions. - ➤ Penobscot Community Health Care’s mental health center in Bangor will move to Brewer this fall and be renamed PCHC Behavioral Health Connection—its new space at Brewer Medical Center will consolidate services and reduce costs. Bangor Daily News
