  • Acadia Federal Credit Union distributed $80,648 in hunger relief funds during summer 2025—supporting food pantries in Bangor and northern Aroostook County. The 2024 campaign raised these funds to help local families face food insecurity and ranked Acadia third among 53 Maine credit unions.  The County
  • People who are unhoused in Bangor will have fewer shelter options this winter as two warming centers closed due to a failed grant and misdirected paperwork — leaving Mansion Church as the only center, which is adding 20 beds. Local officials say community partners are working to secure other solutions for those in need.  News Center Maine
  • A community motorcycle ride and donation drive is planned for Oct. 4 to help local children get new winter coats. Ride North Harley-Davidson of Caribou will start the event at 9 a.m.—participants pay $10 to join and drop off coats for Woodland Consolidated School and Washburn District Elementary School.  The County

  • Today, the Maine Senate passed a bipartisan resolution to honor National Lobster Day and Maine’s lobster industry, which brought in over $709 million in 2024—supporting both the state’s heritage and economy. Senators Angus King and Susan Collins said the measure recognizes the hardworking lobstermen and women who keep this vital tradition alive.  FOX Bangor

  • Gov. Janet Mills launched Maine’s new Department of Energy Resources on Wednesday with Dan Burgess as acting commissioner to continue the work of the Governor’s Energy Office—this department now has new authority over state energy policy and will plan clean, cost-effective options for ratepayers.  Bangor Daily News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Sprout Organics has expanded its voluntary recall of Sweet Potato Apple and Spinach baby food pouches sold at Walgreens and independent retailers in 28 states—including in Maine—with recalled 3.5-ounce containers marked by lot codes 4212, 4213, 4282, and 4310 that have best-by dates from Oct 29th to Feb 4th. Routine testing found potentially elevated lead levels, and consumers are urged to return any affected pouch for a full refund.  News Center Maine
  • A new HIV case has raised the total in Penobscot County to 29 with most cases linked to drug injection or homelessness—Bangor public health officials have hired two case managers after a $550K proposal in August to boost support for those affected.  Bangor Daily News

  • In Maine, the number of homes for sale reached the highest level since October 2020 and buyers closed 1,712 deals in August. The median price rose 2.4% to $409,450 — experts say the market is shifting to a more balanced state.  Bangor Daily News

  • Dexter Regional High School athletics received a $25,000 grant on Sept. 25 as one of 25 finalists in T-Mobile’s Friday Night 5G Lights Sweepstakes—now the school is in the running for a $1M field upgrade with community voting open until Oct. 24, and it will celebrate with games, giveaways and free food on Oct. 18 when the football team hosts Houlton at 1 p.m.  The Piscataquis Observer
  • On September 20, 2025, 10 of Maine's leading sports figures were inducted into the Maine Sports Hall of Fame at Husson University's Gracie Theatre in Bangor — the inductees include former athlete Bryant Barr and paracyclist Clara Brown.
