- ➤ Empty Arms of Greater Bangor will host its annual Remembrance Walk on October 5th at 2 p.m.—at Mount Hope Cemetery—to honor babies lost during pregnancy and infancy. Families will gather at the Butterfly Memorial Garden and walk one mile to remember their little ones. WABI 5
- ➤ Nearly 300 Bangor students at Downeast Elementary helped beautify the school by planting a garden after a fundraiser and will create a new mural designed by local artist Peter Walls—funded by donations from Bangor Greendrinks and the City of Bangor Commission on Cultural Development. WABI 5

- ➤ With peak foliage almost here, locals are pressing freshly-fallen leaves—especially from maple, oak, and birch—to make crafts like bookmarks and frames; they use newspaper and a heavy book to preserve the colors for later use. Bangor Daily News

- ➤ Governor Mills launched Maine’s new cabinet-level Department of Energy Resources to support affordable, reliable energy for people and businesses—replacing the Governor’s Energy Office with Dan Burgess as acting commissioner and joining 40 other states. WABI 5
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Northern Light Health and Anthem remain deadlocked in contract talks as the Oct. 1 deadline nears—without a new deal, patients will lose in-network care starting with physicians and some services on Oct. 1, hospital services on Dec. 31, and the full system on Jan. 1; lawmakers warned that ending the contract would affect roughly 30,000 Mainers and urged both sides to resume negotiations. REAL ESTATE NEWS
- ➤ The Bangor Housing Authority began construction on Sunridge Senior Housing Apartments—a 50-unit complex on Sunset Avenue providing affordable homes for seniors earning up to 60 percent of the area median income; the building will offer 44 one-bedroom and six two-bedroom units. The project is set to finish by June so seniors can move in before the Fourth of July and ease long waitlists. Bangor Daily News
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ UMaine's hockey team will compete in the 2028 Friendship Four tournament in Belfast, Northern Ireland—joining teams from four conferences including Notre Dame, Nebraska Omaha and Dartmouth College. The tournament will be held at the SSE Arena during Thanksgiving weekend and marks the team's second appearance. Bangor Daily News
- ➤ Bangor High School girls soccer extended its unbeaten streak to 22 games with a 1-0 win over Brunswick on Tuesday night at Cameron Stadium—senior attacking midfielder Clara Oldenburg scored with 16:38 left in the first half to keep the defense that has allowed only 11 goals during the streak. The Rams are 6-0-1 this season and will host Edward Little at 6 p.m. today. Bangor Daily News
