COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Friends of Katahdin Woods and Waters will host the Stars Over Katahdin stargazing event on Sept. 27 at Taylor's Katahdin View Campground in Stacyville—featuring family activities, campfire chats and talks on light pollution with park rangers and astronomers.  News Center Maine
  • Bangor will host its first-ever Bangor United Multicultural Fair on Saturday, September 27 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Bangor Public Library - the free event will offer food, music, dance, face painting and activities for all ages to celebrate diverse traditions.  WABI 5

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Treworgy Family Orchards began as a small apple farm and has grown into a family business offering pick-your-own apples, pumpkins, and a corn maze that wins awards — this year the maze is shaped like a whale from a classic book. The farm in Levant, 10 miles from Bangor, now adds summer fruits, a petting zoo, and plans to produce maple syrup as new generations help run the business.  News Center Maine

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Eastern Maine Community College mourns President Liz Russell, who passed away on Sunday at her home—she served the college for over three decades and was known for always lending a helping hand.  WABI 5

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Three Bangor police officers took a photo in uniform with City Council candidate Richard Ward, known for far-right rhetoric and neo-Nazi symbols, while on duty at the waterfront on Sept. 12. Ward said he informed the officers of his candidacy — police confirmed the officers did not face disciplinary action despite a policy requiring political neutrality.  Bangor Daily News
  • At Monday's court hearing, Namdar Realty Group showed that repairs at Bangor Mall have advanced after a nearly year-long dispute with the city, and the mall sign at Hogan Road and Bangor Mall Boulevard will be torn down on Oct. 3—pending contractor work and safety checks.  Bangor Daily News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Bangor hosted the 2025 Maine Child Passenger Safety Summit as nearly 100 experts gathered Monday to update car seat certification and improve child safety. The event honored top technicians — including awardee Turcotte — and announced a free seat check on Sept. 27 at Windsor Town Office.  WABI 5

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Maine families need mortgage rates to drop to 5.6% before they can afford the average home because a family earning the state’s median income cannot handle the current 6.3% rate—Zillow’s calculations show homes priced at $412,000 require lower monthly payments. Buyers following standard guidelines must have no more than 30% of their income go toward housing expenses.  Bangor Daily News

SPORTS NEWS

  • UMaine men’s hockey is ranked seventh in the U.S. College Hockey Online preseason poll by 50 coaches and media following a season when the Black Bears won their first Hockey East Tournament title since 2004. The team will face 12 games against top-10 opponents this season—an important test as they aim to build on last year’s success.  Bangor Daily News
  • UMaine athletics set a new fundraising record with $22.9M in gifts and pledges, more than double last year’s total and featuring a $16M donation from the estates of former football player Pete Labat and his wife Catherine Labat—money that will help pay for major facilities upgrades.  Bangor Daily News
