ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Officials at the University of Maine reviewed safety measures after two pedestrians were struck by vehicles on campus, with the first crash on Sept. 9 involving a student and an employee and the second on Sept. 16 resulting in minor injuries to a student amid heavy commuter traffic.  FOX Bangor

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Bethany Gregory, owner of Bangor’s Vista and Vows wedding catering business, is facing 27 consumer complaints and $70K in tax liens as couples say she failed to refund payments and canceled events. Her business has seen a surge in issues—most complaints cite poor service and canceled weddings, while federal and state liens date back to 2023.  Bangor Daily News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Jacob Beckwith, Tina Bell and Karen Keene graduated from the certified nursing assistant program during a ceremony on Sept. 11 at Mayo Hospital in Dover-Foxcroft — they will take the state exam next and start work at Piscataquis County hospitals.  The Piscataquis Observer

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Maine utility regulators approved five renewable energy projects—one four-megawatt hydroelectric facility and four solar plants totaling 257 megawatts—that will reuse PFAS-contaminated farmland to support the state’s clean energy goals. Names of winning bidders will be released once contracts are finalized in the coming weeks.  News Center Maine
  • A bull moose was rescued from an old well on private property in Pembroke Wednesday by a team including Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife wardens and biologists—roughly a dozen people worked five hours with an excavator and heavy tow straps to free the animal, which quickly walked away after its rescue. The well has been securely covered and will be permanently sealed to prevent future wildlife accidents.  Bangor Daily News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Maine and six other Northeast states announced yesterday that they formed a public health collaborative to build joint vaccine guidelines, improve emergency response and share disease data—each state will keep its own plans while working together amid federal changes made by Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Namdar Realty Group said on Wednesday that it is in discussions to sell Bangor Mall (a property suffering from decay and tenant losses) while visible repairs have begun. City officials and developers met to review redevelopment plans, and two pending city lawsuits against Namdar will conclude soon.  Bangor Daily News

SPORTS NEWS

  • UMaine will host a fan fest at Alfond Stadium in Orono on Oct. 10 before its hockey season opener, where Barstool Sports' Chiclets University crew+including Mike Grinnell, Matt Murley, and Elliott Fish will join the festivities. Fans will also enjoy a free show by the Portland country band 12/OC.  Bangor Daily News
