  • A Bangor wedding catering business, Vista and Vows, faced 22 consumer complaints in August and September from couples who reported late arrivals, wrong food, canceled services, and losses from $3,300 to $34,000. Owner Bethany Gregory said staffing issues and problems with Square led to the complaints and that refunds will be issued once the software issues are resolved—most complaints involved failure to provide a refund.  Bangor Daily News
  • Evenrood’s, an American cuisine restaurant in downtown Bangor, will close Dec. 31 after a decade of service— the owner did not give a reason.  Bangor Daily News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Robinson Ballet, a Bangor staple celebrating 50 years downtown, is hosting a 24-hour fundraiser from noon Thursday to noon Friday—A Day of Giving—to raise funds for its dance programs and cover expenses such as rent and costumes. The nonprofit aims to reach a $10,000 goal while offering themed challenges for dancers and community members.  WABI 5
  • County singer Riley Green will perform his hits at Maine Savings Amphitheater on August 15 next summer — tickets go on sale Friday at 10 a.m.  WABI 5

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Maine schools and organizations enrolled new voters on Tuesday during National Voter Registration Day, as eligible Mainers—including those turning 18 by Nov. 5—registered for upcoming municipal elections and a referendum on voting ID and dangerous weapons. Democracy Maine—through Maine Students Vote—worked to remove barriers and encouraged local young people to participate.  News Center Maine

  • The Maine Log a Load Golf Tournament raised funds for Bangor Medical Center in Bangor — the event brought local golf enthusiasts together to support healthcare.  WABI 5
  • FYZICAL Therapy and Balance Centers will host Harvest Your Health: Fight the Fall in Bangor on Saturday, September 20 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. at FYZICAL Twin City Bangor—offering free balance screenings, fall risk education, seasonal activities, and food sales that will benefit the Vestibular Disorders Association.  FOX Bangor
  • Modivcare’s CEO Heath Sampson said the company will implement a restructuring plan in the coming months to invest in new technologies and expand its MaineCare transportation services despite its recent Chapter 11 filing—ensuring that operations remain steady as the company works to meet the health care needs of Maine residents. The plan aims to strengthen the organization long-term and maintain reliable nonemergency rides across the state.  Bangor Daily News
  • All Mainers older than six months became eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine last week after a state CDC order, and CVS began booking appointments on Sunday. Pharmacy supplies will not be broad until late September or mid-October — new guidelines for children’s vaccines are still pending.  Bangor Daily News

  • UMaine, last season's Hockey East champions, were picked fourth in a preseason poll by conference coaches, with Boston College chosen first with 109 points. Coach Ben Barr said the team will build on two NCAA tournament trips and prepare for an exhibition game against UNH on Oct. 3 at Bowdoin College—adding nine new players to the roster.  Bangor Daily News
  • Jesse —Flex— Labreck moved back from Illinois and now manages the NinjAdventure zone at Alfond Youth & Community Center in Waterville where she teaches Ninja Warrior classes to kids.
