- ➤ Later this month, the Brick Church in Bangor will launch the Living Life Skills program to help people transition out of homelessness — giving participants new ways to solve problems and prepare for housing or rehab. The program is open to all and starts Sept. 22. FOX Bangor

- ➤ Marden’s bought the old Burlington Coat Factory at 229 Springer Drive and is fixing the 85,000-square-foot building for a new store—it will open early next year. Bangor Daily News

- ➤ Today, the Maine Motor Transport Association is touring the state with an interactive trailer during National Truck Driver Appreciation Week to show young people how truck driving and truck maintenance work. The display features realistic truck simulations — including a VR forklift setup — and offers scholarships for local drivers. WABI 5
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Hydropower generation in northern New England slowed as drought dropped daily output from about 23,000 megawatt hours in June to nearly half that by August — dam operators now rely more on natural gas since lower river flows reduce power from hydropower. Bangor Daily News

- ➤ Council Chair Cara Pelletier resigned last week due to personal attacks from the public—Bangor City Council voted 5-2 at Monday's special meeting to elect Councilor Richard Fournier as interim chair who will lead housing efforts until the November general election. FOX Bangor
- ➤ Gov. Mills met with local leaders and business owners in Piscataquis County on Monday to discuss the economy during a tour of Pleasant River Lumber Company and Puritan Medical Products in Guilford and Dover-Foxcroft. - ➤ Maine's Permanent Commission on the Status of Women warned that cuts in CDC staffing could lead to lost PRAMS data (tracking mothers and babies since 1987) and weaken state health programs as delivery services face reductions. - ➤ Homes for sale in Penobscot County increased nearly 19% from July to August—bringing the total to about 600 and over 100 in Bangor—while median prices dropped 2% to $288,500.
