  • On Friday night in Augusta—where community members prayed for Charlie Kirk’s family after his shooting at Utah Valley University—and in Bangor and Portland, hundreds gathered in peaceful vigils to denounce political violence and unite the community. An organizer said the events aimed to help people come together through shared faith and respectful debate.  Bangor Daily News
  • Last Saturday, Don Veneziano held his fifth annual Whoopies for Whiskers bake sale in Bangor—raising more than $500 in the first hour as he offered donations for whoopie pies, homemade pickles and T-shirts to help the Bangor Humane Society care for animals in need.  WABI 5

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Maine’s fall turkey season begins Monday and will run through November 7 — in eligible zones, hunters may take up to five birds while wildlife management zones 1, 2, 4, 5 and 9 stay closed.  Bangor Daily News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Maine football fans celebrated the season opener on Saturday with a tailgate party in Orono — they shared their excitement before the game.  WABI 5
  • Stonehill defeated Maine 13-10 on Saturday night as Jack O’Connell connected with Brigham Dunphy for a 34 yard touchdown pass with 1:45 left to win the game. Maine’s only touchdown came in the second quarter on a 1 yard run by Molayo Irefin.  WABI 5
