COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Rosalina, a calm Siberian husky mix rescued from Puerto Rico and now living with a foster family in Brunswick, is available for adoption through Passion For Pets Rescue with an adoption fee of $475. The rescue says she is affectionate, good with kids and other pets, and enjoys car rides and chasing squirrels — a great pick for a loving family.  News Center Maine
  • On Friday, 164 golfers played at JaTo Highlands Golf Course in Lincoln for the Log a Load for Kids Golf Tournament to raise funds for Maine kids in need and the Children's Miracle Network hospitals. The funds helped Bangor’s Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center get a new ambulance—Miracle II that can provide hospital services for very small infants.  WABI 5
  • Library card holders will get free access to Maine state parks on September 20—this event is part of National Library Card sign-up month coordinated by the Maine State Library and state parks. Visitors must show their card to enter and enjoy the natural surroundings.  FOX Bangor

CRIME NEWS

  • Baxter State Park officials said that the Baxter Peak summit sign on Katahdin was vandalized when letters H.M. and J.M. were carved into the wood—officials now urge anyone with information to call park headquarters at 723-5140.  WABI 5
  • Local authorities charged the handler of a Maine comfort dog in connection to its death on September 12th — the case is under investigation.  WABI 5

CULTURE NEWS

  • A new 430-foot mural on Broadway and York Street brightened a plain concrete wall with images of Maine birds, including the loon and chickadee. Artist Alison Ross led Bangor Beautiful and Maine Audubon in the project—high school students will add panels in October while volunteers plant a native garden and trees are planned along Broadway.  Bangor Daily News
  • Chispa will hold its first Multiculture Festival in Bangor—details like the date and activities are still pending.  FOX Bangor

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Bangor City Council will elect a new chair next Monday at 5:15 p.m. after former chair Cara Pelletier resigned—she cited personal attacks as the reason and the new leader will serve until November elections bring in new councilors.  Bangor Daily News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Northern Light Health’s mobile mammography unit is serving rural communities this fall by offering 3D breast cancer screenings in a comfortable setting. It already stopped in Greenville on Sept. 11 and will visit Corinth on Oct. 10 and Dover-Foxcroft on Sept. 20 — helping women access early detection services.  News Center Maine

SPORTS NEWS

  • UMaine wide receiver and punt returner Scott Woods transferred from Harvard, where he earned an economics degree, and is now making key plays as he gears up for today’s 6 p.m. home opener against Stonehill — he is also working toward his MBA and seeks to lead the Black Bears to a CAA championship.  Bangor Daily News
  • Bangor High School's golf team remained undefeated after beating Old Town at Bangor Municipal Golf Course—Bangor scored 159 while Old Town ended with 222, keeping the team on a 5-0 win streak.  Bangor Daily News
  • River City Athletics is constructing an 88,000 square foot dome and four artificial turf fields on Coldbrook Road in Hampden after shifting plans from Holden — the group expects the first field to be completed this fall with further fields and the dome ready in later seasons as part of the $10.5 million project covering 22 acres.  Bangor Daily News
