CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ On Wednesday, the community marked the 24th anniversary of Sept. 11 by remembering six Mainers—Robert Jalbert from Lewiston, James Roux from Portland, Robert and Jacqueline Norton from Lubec, Commander Robert Schlegel from Gray and Stephen Ward from Gorham—who were killed when terrorists attacked the World Trade Center and Pentagon. ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Maine’s minimum wage will rise from $14.65 to $15.10 an hour on Jan. 1, 2026—living costs increased 3.1% in the past year—and tipped workers will see their wage increase from $7.33 to $7.55 if their combined earnings do not meet the new standard. The overtime threshold will also rise to $871.16 a week as a result of the change. Bangor Daily News

- ➤ Bangor City Council will choose a new chair after former leader Cara Pelletier resigned Tuesday night due to personal attacks. Councilors Dan Tremble and Rick Fournier said the council will vote for a replacement at the Sept. 22 meeting—though a special meeting may be held before then if needed. Bangor Daily News
- ➤ Mainers with their library cards can get free day use admission to Maine state parks and historic sites on Sept 20 from 9 a.m. until closing. The offer does not include key spots (Acadia National Park, Allagash Wilderness Waterway, Baxter State Park, Maine Wildlife Park, Peacock Beach, Scarborough Beach, Swan Island, Penobscot River Corridor and Penobscot Narrows Observatory). HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Maine SNAP-Ed program will end on Sept. 30 due to federal funding cuts, stopping nutrition classes that helped over 21,000 Mainers last year — partner agencies such as Good Shepherd Food Bank will offer a limited number of volunteer-led sessions. WABI 5
- ➤ In Maine, people can only get a COVID vaccine with a doctor's prescription if they are 65 and older or have certain health conditions, which has caused confusion in the community. Gov. Mills said she is working with the attorney general to change the rules this week—so that anyone who wants a shot can get one. News Center Maine

- ➤ Four local high school football games are set for tonight with Hermon hosting state champion Wells at 6 p.m.—Old Town plays Gardiner and Bangor travels to Saco to meet Thornton Academy at 7 p.m. Orono will face Stearns as the Red Riots try to recover from a heavy loss — a key early season test for the team.
