- ➤ The Maine Department of Agriculture and Forestry released its first fall foliage report today and said cooler nights mean the leaf peeping season is starting soon. The report noted that northern Maine will peak in late September through early October while central & western regions reach their colors around Indigenous People’s Day and coastal & southern areas peak in mid to late October. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ State lawmakers pressed officials Tuesday about renewing Modivcare’s 10-year $750 million MaineCare transportation contract after the Colorado-based firm filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy last month, amid reports of delays and poor treatment of riders. Modivcare’s CEO said there has been no disruption to services while two local providers are challenging the contract in court+ the statewide service remains on hold. Bangor Daily News
- ➤ Chair Cara Pelletier resigned from the Bangor City Council today due to personal attacks that hurt her health—she was elected in 2022 and her term was set to end in November as she was not running for reelection. WABI 5

- ➤ Officials from the Maine CDC reported Tuesday that a local resident was diagnosed with the state's first 2025 case of Eastern Equine Encephalitis, known as EEE, after falling ill in late August and remaining hospitalized—health officials warn heavy rains have raised the risk of infected mosquitoes. - ➤ UMaine women’s soccer team is off to a 1-3-1 start as they lost three home games with only one goal scored while scoring five on the road. Coach Scott Atherley said the team needs more time to build chemistry ahead of a UConn game Sunday, a conference opener at Albany on Sept. 21 and a Bryant game on Oct. 2 with practices starting at their new facility on Sept. 27. - ➤ With last year’s top scorer departed, senior Oldenburg and sophomore Stephenson stepped up by scoring key goals in Bangor High School girls soccer team’s 3–1 win over Mt. Ararat on Tuesday—Oldenburg scored twice while Stephenson converted a penalty with 4:45 remaining. The duo now leads the team as they prepare for further challenges—Bangor will travel to South Paris today at 5:45 p.m. and face Brewer on Friday at 7 p.m. Bangor Daily News
