Apple Hill Stables in Levant is hosting a professional rodeo this weekend to benefit children, with proceeds split between Shriners Children’s hospitals + Make-A-Wish Maine; the event kicks off Friday and offers free admission for kids four and under with pre-purchased tickets.

Two Bangor brothers started Coheris, a community garden project that gives city renters a way to grow fruits and vegetables, though some plots have been vandalized.

They are seeking permission to expand the project to local parks soon - permission pending.

Filmmaking brothers Nick and Cash Cassidy premiered their comedy-drama 'Saving Black Bear' Wednesday night at Black Bear Cinemas in Orono & community support inspired the project; the film will screen again next Wednesday at 7 p.m. for those who missed it.

The Maine Office of Cannabis Policy announced the continuation of its Safe Storage for ME program, which will distribute 12,000 free lockable storage bags to cannabis patients and adult users through 140 retailers and nine Public Health Districts.

The bags will help keep cannabis safely stored away from children and pets.

Bangor city councilors recommended $7,000 from opioid settlement funds to help Together Place reach its $220,000 goal needed to reopen its drop-in and meal services after closing at the end of July.

The full council votes Monday, and the center at 2 Second St. should reopen within seven days.

Former Bangor and UMass football star Pete McCarty died Sunday night at age 70 after a long illness.

Inducted in 2009 into the Maine Sports Hall of Fame, he was celebrated for his skill on the field and his kind spirit as a coach and friend in the sports community.
