- ➤ A Hermon man—27-year-old Jorge Malone—went to his girlfriend's home armed with a handgun on Thursday after she had sought a protection order, and he was arrested without incident on charges of Domestic Violence Stalking and Domestic Violence Terrorizing with help from the Maine State Police Tactical Team. - ➤ Maine’s highest court ruled that police must stop questioning if a suspect’s decision to give up their right to a lawyer is unclear. The ruling overturned a conviction from a 2020 drug case in Penobscot County—where mixed answers left rights ambiguous—and sets a new standard to protect constitutional rights. Bangor Daily News
- ➤ Local first responders are honoring fallen soldier Oscar Linwood Sprague as his remains return to Milbridge — his 95-year-old sister Bernice Thompson met the team at a Kennebunk travel center and family will gather at Bragdon-Kelley Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 3rd at 1:00 for a graveside service. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Maine's Lyme disease cases are nearing record highs with almost 2,800 cases reported through August—up more than 20 percent from last year—and emergency rooms have seen more tick bite patients. Experts at the University of Maine Tick Lab report a 20 percent rise in tick submissions and cases of Lyme carditis, warning that a longer tick season driven by climate change may push numbers even higher. - ➤ UMaine football head coach Jordan Stevens said his team is ready to face heavy underdogs when they travel to Williams Stadium today for a season opener against Liberty University.
