ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A 63-year-old motorcyclist died after hitting a deer on Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. on Route 7 in Dexter; she was flown by LifeFlight to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, where she was in critical condition before she died.  The Piscataquis Observer

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Modivcare, a healthcare transportation company that signed a 10-year, $750 million contract to provide non-emergency rides statewide, filed for bankruptcy to reduce its $1.1 billion debt while its deal remains tied up in court. State leaders urged a reassessment of the contract, and the company said services continue normally + lenders back its restructuring.  News Center Maine

CRIME NEWS

  • Pending felony cases in Penobscot County have more than doubled since 2019 to reach 769 and increased nearly 121 percent in Piscataquis County with overall state cases up 65 percent — courts face staffing shortages while managing a tougher surge in charges.  The Piscataquis Observer

SPORTS NEWS

  • UMaine hockey defenseman Brandon Holt said the Black Bears are adding 13 newcomers — including nine players from Canada—to replace key scorers from last season. He said the team will be faster and more skilled but not as big, and they will use a six-week workout plan before an exhibition game at Sidney J. Watson Arena on Oct. 3 and opening regular season play on Oct. 10-11.  Bangor Daily News
