  • Today, e-bikes are becoming a common way to get around Bangor on both city streets and rural trails. Local shop Slipping Gears and police say sales are up and thefts are reported — bike prices range from a few hundred to several thousand dollars — while safety tips remind riders to wear helmets and lock their bikes.  WABI 5

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Emergency crews responded to a crash in Newburgh that involved a tractor-trailer truck and a car just before noon on Route 69 (Carmel Rd. North) Wednesday, and the road was closed from Dysart’s Newburgh Travel Stop to Western Ave (Route 202) as officials investigated the scene.  WABI 5

CRIME NEWS

  • Pending felony cases in Penobscot County have more than doubled since August 8—now at 769—and local courts face strain from staffing shortages and increased felony charges.  Bangor Daily News

  • Brewer High School will induct five players, one coach and two teams into its Athletic Hall of Fame on Sept 13 at the Brewer Community School Performing Arts Center. The inductees include Joel Barrett, Steve Campbell, Ric Franks, Katherine Gibbs Heselton, Don McGlauflin and soccer coach Mike Jeffrey — a group that marks decades of sports achievements.  Bangor Daily News
  • Boston Bruins goalie Jeremy Swayman—a former University of Maine standout—has been invited to attend the U.S. Men's Olympic Orientation Camp, joining 43 other players with 25 to be chosen for the Olympic roster in early January. The two-day event in Plymouth, Michigan will be held Aug. 26-27 and focuses on administrative and team-building sessions.  News Center Maine
