- ➤ Old Town resident Betty Peasley celebrated her 100th birthday last Wednesday with her first firetruck ride arranged by her friend Theresa and the Old Town Fire Department—Bangor Home Depot donated lumber to build steps and crafted a special apron to help her board. The firetruck then escorted her to the Old Town Elks Lodge where local community members honored her long-time service. WABI 5
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A fire burned a Veazie 20-unit apartment building on Thompson Road Tuesday afternoon—likely started by discarded smoking material—forcing crews to contain the blaze to four apartments while a man was treated for second-degree burns, more than a dozen firefighters were treated for heat-related illnesses, and a dog and possibly a cat died. - ➤ Cleanup continued after an apartment fire at Colonial Village Apartments in Veazie on August 12 at 4:30 p.m.—fire crews worked to secure the area and investigate the cause. WABI 5

- ➤ Local restaurateur Bob Cutler of Novio’s Bistro spoke today on Good Morning Maine about Wyoming Whiskey’s new Acadia Edition that will benefit conservation efforts at Acadia National Park—limited bottles will feature in two specialty cocktails at Novio’s and are available at local stores. - ➤ Danish metal band Volbeat performed The Greatest of All Tours Worldwide on Tuesday evening at the Bangor waterfront—special guests Halestorm and The Ghost Inside joined the act. Bangor Daily News
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ On Tuesday, the Maine CDC notified Waterville officials after a gray fox from the Quarry Road trail tested positive for rabies and urged residents to take precautions. Maine has reported 22 rabid animals such as skunks and raccoons, and the USDA will drop vaccine baits in Aroostook County on Wednesday—steps to help prevent the spread of the virus. WABI 5
- ➤ Bangor Public Health and Community Services will use $550,200 from an opioid settlement to add more help for people with HIV affected by a current outbreak. The city will hire two case managers to guide patients to treatment, food, and housing and plans to keep the program after the current funding ends — it targets those with substance use disorder in Penobscot County.
