- ➤ The Penobscot Nation youth canoe team is leaving the Penobscot to race at the United States Canoe Association national championships in Northfield, Massachusetts today. The team has about a dozen members aged 10 to 17 and includes top paddler Koa Neptune-Sanborn who won trophies last year, and they train to honor their heritage and build their skills. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Bangor police arrested 34-year-old Dirk Weber on Front Street early Wednesday morning after he allegedly punched a dog and its owner when they intervened—he later hit his head while in custody and now faces charges of assault, disorderly conduct, refusal to submit to arrest, and assault on a police officer for reportedly spitting on an officer. - ➤ Old Town Theatre opened in downtown Old Town in May and has drawn crowds with live music, indie movies and trivia nights. Owner Daniel McCue plans to expand the venue’s offerings by adding a cafe or coworking space by September—local acts and future stand-up comedy shows will add to its appeal. Bangor Daily News
