This marks her ongoing effort to honor Adam's legacy of caring for others.  WABI 5

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • State foresters recorded the first beech tree deaths from beech leaf disease last Tuesday during a midcoast check. Scientists said the disease, caused by an invasive nematode (first seen in Ohio in 2012), now affects trees in all 16 counties (a sign of potential widespread damage) and may hurt wildlife that depends on beech nuts.  Bangor Daily News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • In 2023, Jasmin Belanger set up a repayment plan with the Bangor housing authority to pay back $750 but later learned her record listed an eviction even though she paid on time. The court process (which does not stop eviction cases when payment plans are made) has hurt her search for new housing (as landlords check these records) and may force a change in the rules.  WABI 5

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Cary Classic Benefit Golf Tournament on July 12 saw 112 golfers compete, with Phil Pelletier winning the Men's Division I Low Gross after a sudden-death playoff (three holes) and Jane Hunter claiming the Ladies Division I Low Gross in her third win. Proceeds from over $7,000 in prizes were raised to renovate patient care areas at Cary Medical Center.  The County
  • UMaine's kick returner Trevin Ewing, who returned 27 kickoffs for 742 yards last season—averaging 27.5 yards per game—will take on a larger role as a receiver when UMaine opens its season at Liberty University on August 30.  Bangor Daily News
