- ➤ Johnnie Walker of Partners for Peace said domestic violence survivors now spend six months to a year in shelters—up from less than 30 days before—because the tight rental market and few affordable housing options force many to stay longer in temporary housing. The Piscataquis Observer
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Maine Capitol Police Chief Matthew Clancy was charged with assault, refusing to submit to arrest and disorderly conduct after he allegedly assaulted a Hallowell officer who arrested him overnight Friday on Water Street — he is now on administrative leave. Bangor Daily News
- ➤ Authorities in Glenburn report that a 9-year-old English Mastiff named Rosie went missing after a suspect fleeing another incident broke into a home on Lakeview Road on Sunday (she was last seen with a pink bandanna) and searches by deputies and residents have so far not located her. - ➤ A suspect in a Sunday shooting broke into a Lake View Road home in Glenburn and caused the 9-year-old English mastiff Rosie to escape, leaving police to search for the friendly dog with her collar and pink bandanna—she remains missing. Bangor Daily News

- ➤ Jasmin Belanger paid her back rent in 2023 through a court repayment deal with BangorHousing—though the deal mistakenly added an eviction on her record—and she later found that the mark stopped her from renting a new apartment. Bangor Daily News
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Brewer’s Eastern Area Agency on Aging will host Harvest for Help Breakfast on September 18—an event designed to lessen social isolation and boost wellness programs that will include a keynote address by Bangor RN Emily Howe and a silent auction. WABI 5
- ➤ Mainers with individual and small group health coverage may face rate hikes up to 32% next year, with averages of 26% for individuals and 19% for small groups.
