- ➤ The Bangor Region YMCA will host a fundraising event on water on August 6 with live music, cocktails, and auctions to support its essential programs. Guests will board the Friendship FIVE from Waterfront Park at about 4:45 p.m. for a cruise down the Penobscot River to Bucksport and back by 8 p.m.—the event launches a series of fundraisers with further outings planned for September 10 and October 22. ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A 15-year-old teen from Bangor died in an ATV crash Saturday afternoon on the Cross Road trail in Presque Isle while riding with a group—paramedics tried performing CPR but could not revive him, and the investigation is ongoing. WABI 5
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Police arrested two people after a violent incident on Danforth Drive in Glenburn when masked individuals fired shots and damaged a home and car at about 3:10 p.m. on Sunday—one suspect was found hiding under a mobile home trailer and another entered a nearby residence. WABI 5
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Penobscot County’s opioid settlement committee has held about four secret meetings since early summer without public notice, prompting criticism from recovery advocates and committee members. The six-member group—comprising county administrator Scott Adkins, Sheriff Troy Morton, recovery advocate Pat Kimball, recovery coach Angela Walker, and others—will soon develop a public proposal process for disbursing up to $50,000 grants from opioid settlement funds, with applications expected to open in early October and decisions by the end of December. - ➤ The order of Maine’s two statewide ballot proposals for November was set by the Secretary of State’s office through a public lottery — with question one on voter ID changes and question two on a red flag gun measure.
