CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Bangor police said Michael McDarby, 54, crashed his red Subaru into several vehicles and led officers on a chase downtown at 8 a.m. Thursday because he thought someone was following him—he later collided with a patrol car, was arrested and is charged with felonies for eluding an officer and aggravated assault as well as misdemeanors for driving to endanger, refusing arrest, leaving the scene, and violating probation—his bail was set at $1,000 for the non-probation charges. - ➤ Alexis Anderson, 21, was reported missing by her family after a Wednesday concert at Maine Savings Amphitheater and was found safe late Thursday night—according to the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office. Bangor Daily News

- ➤ The Olson House in Cushing is known as the setting for Andrew Wyeth’s Christina’s World and was once owned by film producer Joseph Levine. In 1974 he threatened to float the house on a barge to New Jersey if local residents blocked his plans—today the historic farmhouse is open for public tours. Bangor Daily News
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The federal government said Penobscot County owed nearly $360,000 in unpaid taxes and penalties from 2021 to 2023 — a lien was filed even though county officials said all payments cleared the bank. County Administrator Scott Adkins said confusion over missing federal records and IRS staffing issues has complicated resolving the dispute. The Piscataquis Observer
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Medical care for thousands of Mainers with Anthem insurance remains uncertain as Northern Light Health and Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield continue contract talks with their current agreement expiring on September 30—if no deal is reached, patients may need to seek care elsewhere. The dispute is over reimbursement rates, with Northern Light saying rates must keep pace with inflation while Anthem claims the increase is too high. WABI 5

- ➤ UMaine linebacker Christian Thomas entered the NCAA transfer portal last spring but decided to return after comparing offers from other schools.
