ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A crash on I-95 Southbound near Exit 187 in Bangor between Stillwater in Orono and Hogan Road stalled traffic—Maine State Police urged drivers to use alternate routes.  WABI 5
  • A three-vehicle wreck on I-95 southbound this morning near mile marker 189 on the town line between Orono and Bangor blocked traffic for about two hours as an SUV ended up in the center of the road, a truck broke apart in the woods — and first responders from several fire departments and the State Police worked to clear the scene with no word on injury severity.  FOX Bangor

CRIME NEWS

  • Jake Brown, a contractor charged with theft by deception and home repair fraud, was arrested in Palmer, Alaska on July 21 on an active warrant from Kennebec County—Maine officials said they would not pay for his extradition and he was released by Alaska police.  Bangor Daily News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Bangor City Hall will close 15 minutes early at 4:15 p.m. starting Aug. 11th to lower overtime expenses caused by high customer volume—this change will take effect when the renovated building on Harlow Street reopens.  Bangor Daily News
  • Residents in downtown Bangor will face a water interruption planned by the Bangor water district today—workers will begin at 8:00 p.m. and work for about 8 hours to replace aging infrastructure from the Bangor Savings Bank on South Street to Union Street and from the police station to the railroad tracks by the river.  FOX Bangor

HEALTH NEWS

  • A study is weighing the plan to open Maine’s first public medical school in Penobscot County to help ease the doctor shortage while local health system cuts and federal funding changes pose major hurdles—its recommendations will be delivered to the Legislature by November.  Bangor Daily News
  • Miracle II has been on the road since May as a mobile NICU that replaced Miracle I — it now transports newborn patients from hospitals across Maine with a dedicated team that rides in helicopters and airplanes.  WABI 5
  • Just after 10 p.m. on July 11, sheriff’s personnel found an adult on the Penobscot Narrows Bridge who said they would have jumped without the new curved barrier installed in May — loved ones had long urged for such safeguards after many past tragedies. Officials report that studies for additional suicide prevention on the Piscataqua River Bridge are underway using more camera monitoring — experts say these measures give people time to reconsider.  Bangor Daily News
