  • Over the weekend, hundreds visited Loud Dog Farm along the Bucksport-Orrington line for statewide Open Farm Day; the event let local families see heritage breed livestock and sustainable farming. The farm will host its first Honeybee Festival on Aug. 16 — featuring beekeeping demos and vendors.  FOX Bangor

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Rescuers found an injured woman lost in the woods in Carmel on Sunday afternoon—using her 911 call, a dispatcher guided a sheriff deputy while the Carmel Fire Department helped carry her to safety for medical care.  Bangor Daily News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • State and federal agencies responded Friday after a houseboat swamped Tuesday while being towed for repairs at the Sail, Power and Steam Museum. DEP and Coast Guard teams removed about 50 gallons of diesel fuel and set up containment booms — the investigation is still ongoing.  Bangor Daily News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Penobscot County officials chose a 30-acre site at Ammo Industrial Park in Hampden for a new jail and signed an option agreement for exclusive property rights—wetlands reviews confirmed the land's viability while additional tests are needed. The county will later ask voters to approve a bond for construction and relocating the facility—details on funding and capacity remain under review.  Bangor Daily News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Doctors warn that rising extreme heat is putting stress on pregnant people and unborn babies, leading to dehydration, nausea, and premature labor. Maine has nearly doubled its days of extreme heat in the past five years—prompting calls for better patient education on heat risks.  Bangor Daily News
  • Northern Light Health and Anthem did not reach an agreement on reimbursement rates—negotiations stalled in June and patients with Anthem may face out-of-network changes if the current contract expires. Thirty thousand primary care patients could see non-hospital services change effective Sept 30 while hospital coverage may shift by Dec 30.  Bangor Daily News
