BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Ike Hubbard, an 83-year-old artisan, has spent 35 years making hand-crafted blueberry rakes in his Jonesport shop to help farmers harvest wild blueberries without damaging the fruit. CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Earlier this month, Sotheby’s in New York sold a 54-pound Martian rock called NWA 16788 for $5.3 million to an undisclosed buyer, which led the Bethel museum to update its display so that its 32-pound Taoudenni 002 is now the second largest piece of Mars on Earth. The museum will add a smaller Martian rock soon that experts say may change how we view Mars — a shift closely observed by local collectors. Bangor Daily News
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ At least 16 Maine school districts had their new budgets rejected in June referendums — a sharp rise from last year’s five failures. Low voter turnout and rising property tax concerns led voters to question the sustainability of school funding statewide. The Piscataquis Observer
