- ➤ UScellular is hosting a world record mini golf event today at the Bangor waterfront from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The 507-foot hole, first set in Iowa, was designed with input from youths at the Boys and Girls Club of America and will feature additional activities like mural painting and a giant puzzle. - ➤ London-based Pushkin Press will republish the first choose-your-own-adventure book, Consider the Consequences, on Sept. 30 — the interactive romance co-written nearly 100 years ago by Bangor native Mary Alden Hopkins — which is known for its progressive themes and multiple narrative paths. - ➤ Maine’s federal public defender warned nearly 60 private lawyers stopped getting paid on July 3 to represent low-income federal clients and that payments will resume on Oct 1 — a delay that could force some lawyers to turn down cases and risk a speedy trial for defendants. Bangor Daily News
- ➤ Maine’s congressional delegation is backing the Loggers Economic Assistance and Relief Act to create a disaster relief fund for logging businesses that lose at least 10% revenue from natural disasters — the program would cover damage from high winds, fire, flooding, insect infestations and drought while the U.S. Department of Agriculture would run it if passed. - ➤ Twenty-five new American citizens were sworn in today at the Margaret Chase Smith Memorial Building in Bangor — they took the Oath of Allegiance and began a new chapter with full rights and responsibilities after years of hard work. News Center Maine
