  • Eight-year-old Lillian Jones built and decorated the Helping Hand Stand with her grandmother to raise money for local animal programs—she sold lemonade, water, and popsicles on a Sunday and raised $172 for the Pixel Fund. Her mother said the funds will be delivered later this week.  News Center Maine
  • Hancock County has seen a rise in rural homelessness as many residents have struggled with poverty since 2023—42 percent of households were below or barely above the poverty line. Local groups like the Schoodic Food Pantry report more people living in tents, cars, or makeshift homes while shelters and food pantries face funding challenges in remote areas.  Bangor Daily News

  • Edward Malone, 54 from Bangor, allegedly cut a woman with broken glass during a domestic violence fight at the Vacationland Inn in Brewer on Thursday—authorities later arrested him in Hampden on charges of domestic violence assault and gross sexual assault.  WGAN

  • Zero Energy Homes and Maker Construction plan to build 10 solar-powered modular homes for low- and moderate-income buyers in 2025 and 2026—using Maine-sourced materials and solar panels to keep utility costs low while a Searsport demonstration home is priced at $275,000 and a manufacturing facility near Bangor or Ellsworth is planned.  Bangor Daily News
