Good morning, Bangor.
🏘️ Community
On Saturday, the DAR Bangor chapter in Hermon honored veterans and community members with handmade quilts of valor and awarded a distinguished citizen medal to Doc Goodwin from the Maine Veteran's Project – which also received a $1,000 donation, as Harmony Ingraham noted the awards recognized important sacrifices.
🎭 Culture
Downtown Bangor hosts the annual Summer Sidewalk Art Festival today, where over 100 Maine artists display woodworking, beaded crafts, paintings and other works.
The event, sponsored by Bangor Savings Bank, features food, live performances and family activities and will be followed by an art-tober celebration in October.
📰 Lifestyle
Foragers are encouraged to seek out edible mushrooms like golden chanterelles, lobster mushrooms and black trumpets in Maine woods during warm, wet conditions; experts say checking features (such as gill patterns and aroma) can help avoid toxic look-alikes.
Acadia officials say visitors who miss Cadillac Mountain reservations can enjoy sunrise at quieter sites like Egg Rock Overlook, Schoodic Point, Otter Cliffs, and Champlain Mountain.
The spots offer peaceful views of the Gulf of Maine in a less crowded setting.
