CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ After a three-week run at the Bangor Opera House, the Penobscot Theatre Company will team with Maine Seacoast Mission to perform 'Matinicus: A Lighthouse Play' on Great Cranberry isle on July 21, Isle Au Haut on July 22, and Matinicus on July 23 using the 74-foot Sunbeam. The tour, supported by a grant from the Margaret E. Burnham foundation + donor contributions, tells the true story of Abbie Burgess who once kept a lighthouse on Matinicus rock in 1856. FOX Bangor
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Dan Foss, owner of a Brunswick wildlife rescue nonprofit that handles over 1,000 calls a year, is raising funds to buy a retired ambulance from Boothbay—this new vehicle will let him carry all the needed gear and set up temperature-controlled incubators to help injured animals. He currently uses a packed personal vehicle and covers more than 200 miles a day, and he plans to improve rescue efforts with the ambulance. WABI 5
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Water main breaks on Wednesday night and Thursday morning near Deer Isle Road and Dirigo Drive led the Bangor Water District to issue a boil water order for local residents. Workers are going door to door to notify households—repairs, flushing, and water testing will end the order when complete. Bangor Daily News
- ➤ Two weeks ago, the Maine DOT opened a new 6-mile highway — costing $107 million — that connects Washington County’s Airline route to I-395 and eases dangerous truck traffic on winding local roads. The project took decades to plan and three and a half years to build through challenging wetland areas, and officials say it will improve driver safety for years to come. News Center Maine
