ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A 25-year-old woman from Eddington died when her Toyota RAV4 hit a tree head-on Wednesday morning — sheriff’s deputies and local teams, including fire departments and the transportation department, are investigating the crash.  News Center Maine

CRIME NEWS

  • Federal prosecutors said several Maine properties were used as grow houses in a multimillion-dollar marijuana operation involving money laundering and human smuggling with ties to China—seven Chinese nationals and another individual have been charged while one remains a fugitive.  WABI 5

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Maine Public held a town hall on Tuesday to explain how federal funding cuts may risk 12 percent — about $2.5 million — of its budget and affect emergency alert coverage; President and CEO Rick Schneider urged callers to contact senators for support.  News Center Maine
  • Gov. Mills signed a law that ends new benefits for commercial solar projects and cuts compensation for existing solar arrays by about 20%—ratepayers paid $234 million in 2025. Energy officials have until September 2026 to create a new renewable plan while some developers say the changes may hurt future investments.  Bangor Daily News

  • Ruby Whitmore, a 16-year-old from Old Town with Type 1 diabetes, testified at a U.S. Senate Appropriations Committee hearing on Wednesday to support research funding that keeps her insulin pump and monitors up to date—she said modern technology helps her stay active and play sports.  Bangor Daily News
