ACCIDENTS NEWS

CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Larry Kelley, 47, allegedly hit a homeless man near the Bangor Area Homeless Shelter on July 5 at around 3:45 a.m., causing serious injuries and fleeing the scene—he now faces felony counts of elevated aggravated assault, reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon, aggravated driving to endanger, and leaving the scene of an accident involving serious bodily injury. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The City of Bangor announced a July Parking Amnesty month that waives late fees on parking tickets overdue more than 30 days so drivers pay only the original ticket price. Starting in August, the city will launch a system called the Barnacle — a new parking enforcement method that replaces the boot — and introduce mobile parking payment. WABI 5
REAL ESTATE NEWS
- ➤ A new report shows Maine’s housing vacancy rate is 21.1% because many of the 157,467 vacant homes are seasonal vacation houses used only part of the year—only about 2% are empty and move-in ready, which tightens the market for locals seeking a permanent home. Bangor Daily News
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Former UMaine standout Jeremy Pena has been named to the American League All-Star team as the backup shortstop for the Houston Astros. He suffered a rib fracture in late June that put him on the 10-day injured list and may return before the All-Star Game on July 15 at Truist Park in Atlanta — his .322 average with 11 home runs and 40 RBIs underscores his strong season.
