- ➤ Officials reported two drownings in central Maine in the past 24 hours and urged holiday weekend swimmers to use designated areas with lifeguards, know their limits, and avoid deep or cold water—warnings meant to reduce the risk of similar accidents. FOX Bangor
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Two men—Brian Gleason from Winslow and Milciades Diaz-Soto from Charlestown—were arrested in central Maine on Tuesday for allegedly trafficking cocaine and fentanyl when police seized over a pound of cocaine, fentanyl, $2,000 and a .38 handgun during a search of Gleason’s apartment; they are held without bail at Kennebec County Jail pending court appearance. ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Penquis is leading the Maine Highlands Economic Development Initiative to create sustainable full-time jobs in rural areas of Penobscot and Piscataquis counties. Regional meetings—Tuesday, July 8 at the Katahdin Higher Education Center in East Millinocket and Tuesday, July 15 at the Lincoln Town Office in Lincoln—will allow local residents and leaders to share ideas and guide the plan.
