Good morning, Bangor. Here's your local news at a glance for Saturday, the 28th of June.

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Six people, including four minors, were injured in a crash on Ridge Road in Robbinston Wednesday afternoon—three were flown to Bangor hospitals, with one in critical condition and two in serious condition.  News Center Maine

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Friday, June 27, MaineDOT opened the new single lane I—395/Route 9 Connector for public use, cutting commute times and easing congestion as planned. Brewer Fire Department Captain Brandon Randall said the six mile road lacks an on/off ramp for traffic diversion during emergencies, so response times outside Eddington may not improve.  FOX Bangor
  • Governor Mills returned to Maine Thursday night after a four-day trip to Canada where she met with premiers and officials to discuss tourism and trade. She said the visit confirmed that Maine is open for business and helped address border-crossing concerns—further talks with Canadian leaders will strengthen travel and trade ties.  WABI 5
  • Gov. Mills wrote a letter to Maine's Congress urging them to reject the federal budget bill because it would cut health coverage, food benefits and clean energy tax breaks — measures that could harm rural hospitals and shift costs to Maine families — and she warned that the bill, which passed the U.S. House by a narrow margin, would have damaging consequences for the state.  News Center Maine

HEALTH NEWS

  • Local OB/GYN Joseph Benoit celebrated his retirement Friday when colleagues, family, and patients gathered at Downeast OB/GYN after he provided care since 1986. Benoit said he feels emotional about the support and plans to see his grandkids—travel with his wife and spend time at his second home in Georgia.  WABI 5
  • Northern Light Cancer Care celebrated a new era in patient care on Friday at the Lafayette Family Cancer Institute in Brewer when it cut the ribbon for its third linear accelerator—an upgrade from an older machine that had delayed treatments. The state-of-the-art equipment was installed with a $12M donation from late John Marshall Webber to provide more accurate and timely radiation for patients.  WABI 5

SPORTS NEWS

  • Maine native Cooper Flagg was picked first overall by the Dallas Mavericks at the Barclays Center in New York and his longtime coaches Andy Bedard and Matt MacKenzie said they were overcome with emotion while watching him get drafted; they later celebrated with him at Dave—Buster's, noting his hard work and talent.
